| The Patrick J. Larney Memorial Scholarship Presented by the Friends of Raymond Football Here in Raymond, our youth have the opportunity to enter into a youth football program from the age of 7 - 15. Just drive by the Route 107 Field any autumn night and you will find under the lights, clouded by mosquitoes and moths, a sea of orange helmets and pom-poms. Our youth driven and determined running drills, cracking pads and doing uptowns until the last whistle blows and it times to go home. They’re on the field 3 to 5 nights a week from August until the end of October learning teamwork and exhibiting hard work and sheer determination. Unfortunately at the age of 16 their short football careers in Raymond would come to an end. Any dreams of advancing to a high school team and possible playing college ball were deterred. That was the Past… In 2006 Mr. Patrick Larney began his quest to change the history of football in Raymond. He spearheaded a group of parents to support football in Raymond. Under his leadership this group developed a warrant article to be presented on the 2007 election ballot. The article was defeated by a small margin. However, Mr. Larney was not defeated. While dealing with personal health issues, he continued to lead the quest to bring football to Raymond and the Friends of Raymond Football, Inc. were born. Our mission. “to support the Raymond High School Football Program”. In 2008 the Friends of Raymond Football, lead by Mr. Larney, went out to educated the community of the importance of a football program in our community. They talked with parents, businesses, teachers and citizens, handed out flyers, present to the school board the cost and budget of a new program, and did a local TV program discussing the benefits. In 2008 the warrant article entered the ballot again. This time it passed. Thanks to the generous voters, Raymond now had a new football team. Welcome to the Future.. In August 2008 the first Raymond High School Football Team hit the field as a Junior Varsity program. Mr. Larney’s quest became fulfilled and our youth could now play football in Raymond. In 2009, due to a successful season, the Raymond Rams will hit the field as a JV football team and a Varsity football team, one year earlier than planned for a Varsity program. This is truly a great accomplishment. In Memorandum. On September 17, 2008, after the first Raymond High School Football team took the field and played officially, Mr. Larney lost his courageous battle with bladder cancer. We will always be grateful to Mr. Larney for his insight, perseverance, determination and friendship. In recognition of Pat’s efforts, and to carry on his dream, The Friends of Raymond Football, Inc. are proud to establish and sponsor a scholarship fund in his name. Our goal of keeping his memory alive and giving back to the community that so generously supported our effort to establish a football team. The Scholarship Program The Patrick J.
